Additive Hardware: 3D printing for the construction of the future
Special area on the potential of additive production for the hardware store industry
25.–28. September 2022
location: Eisenwarenmesse 2022, Cologne
organizer: KölnMesse
conception & selection of exhibits: Hon.-Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters
The market for Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing has developed very positively over the past decade. Growth rates of 20-25% have allowed numerous new manufacturers of 3D printers and material producers to enter the market. After the plastics sector had benefited from developments in the consumer sector, sales growth of 25.7% CAGR is forecast for metal printing alone by 2028.
Various industries expect the breakthrough of Additive Manufacturing in the context of series production to be imminent. In addition to medical technology and the aviation industry, more and more components that are produced by means of 3D printing are becoming known, especially in the automotive sector and in spare parts logistics. The transformation in the direction of electromobility is making Additive Manufacturing interesting for more and more automobile manufacturers.
And Additive Manufacturing is also currently being introduced in the construction industry and will permanently change the way we currently know it. The first 3D-printed buildings were also realized in Germany last year. DIY stores are increasingly adapting to the transformation and developing new business models for all aspects of Additive Manufacturing.
KölnMesse is taking the market changes as an opportunity to examine the potential of the various Additive Manufacturing processes in the context of the International Hardware Fair 2022 in cooperation with HAUTE INNOVATION.
As part of a special exhibition, the possibilities, qualities and potential of 3D printing for direct component production and the production of spare parts in the context of hardware stores are shown. Especially the potential of Additive Manufacturing for the construction industry will be explained.
The following highlights of the exhibition with a total of 60 exhibits have already been confirmed:
- World’s first building-certified 3D printed facade node (Lithium Designers, Frankfurt)
- Heatable 3D printed outdoor furniture (3D Betondruck Solutions, Austria)
- Terrazzo floor with 3D printed patterns made from bio-based printing filament (Aectual, NL)
- Big Cellulose Printing of a rotor blade (Singapore University of Technology and Design)
- 3D printed faucet made of ZAMAK in zinc die-cast quality (PROTIQ, Germany)
- Sand Printing (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel)
