The Future of Kids’ Retail

Kind + Jugend · koelnmesse

15/16 September 2026

Diana Drewes offers insights into the future of children’s retail, using inspiring examples to explore how customers can once again be encouraged to engage more strongly with physical retail.

Non-tox materials

At the heart of her talks is the question of how a shop can become much more than simply a place to buy products. Successful retail concepts are increasingly evolving into meeting places where people connect, share experiences and build trust. A strong community creates an emotional connection and gives customers reasons to return regularly – not only to purchase products, but also to be part of a network.

This social aspect is particularly important when it comes to products for babies and young children. Parents look for guidance and often rely on the recommendations and experiences of other families. Workshops, parent cafés, family clubs and repair cafés create opportunities for exchange and interaction, while at the same time strengthening relationships with retailers and brands. In this way, physical retail becomes a place where advice, inspiration, service and community come together.

Another key focus is the design of the retail space itself. Circular, non-toxic and biodegradable materials demonstrate how sustainable shopfitting can work in practice and how a brand’s values can be expressed credibly through the physical environment.

Diana Drewes will be part of the stage programme at Kind + Jugend in Cologne on 15 and 16 September, presenting four talks.
