Materials Matter

8. Future Talks Conference · Neue Sammlung · Pinakothek der Moderne · Munich

9 November 2023, 17:35–18:30

With participants from more than 20 nations, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich has been organizing the international conference “Future Talks” every two years since 2009, which is dedicated to key aspects of technology and the preservation of modern cultural creation. The eighth edition of “Future Talks” looks back at completed restoration projects and cases presented at the conference since 2009.

Materials Matter – Cold and current cases in the conversation of the modern timeframe

Because: “Just as criminal investigators rely on cold cases when reopening past cases, with the “Future Talks 023″ we recognize the enormous potential that lies in looking back at previous conservation projects,” the organizers led by chief restorer Tim Bechthold explain the focus of the conference.

As part of the three-day conference, Hon.-Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters is invited to take part in a panel discussion on November 9, 2023, which is dedicated to “Innovative Material Developments” and will provide a perspective on what restorers can expect in the collections tomorrow and the day after.

In particular, questions will be discussed as to what future material developments will look like and which factors they will be based on. In the context of the retrospective conference theme “Materials Matter – Cold and current cases in the conversation of the modern timeframe”, parallels are also drawn to the production of semi-synthetic materials towards the end of the 19th century.
