The negative impacts of climate change were clearly felt this summer. Efforts to reduce climate-damaging emissions are currently opening up a realm of possibilities for innovation, leading to the creation of advanced biomaterials derived from natural resources—materials that boast significantly lower carbon footprints and have the potential to replace conventional industrial materials.
Biomaterials to Combat Climate Change
Examples include 3D printing materials based on lignin, bio-circular PBS foams, micronized olive pit powder as a filler for the tire industry, and nanocellulose-based coatings for pipe sections. Furthermore, a new generation of materials utilizing CO2 as a resource is currently emerging.
At the invitation of the organizers of the ELMIA Subcontractor trade fair in Jönköping, Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters is presenting a range of exciting material developments for technical applications that are derived entirely from natural resources. Most of the innovations on display are part of the Materials Hub at the SMART Arena 2026.
