New Materials for Mechanical Engineering

VDMA Future Day · Futurium · Berlin

24 November 2025

Value creation today takes place in innovative, sometimes global and complex networks. As a result, new ideas and dynamic changes have far-reaching effects. Early detection of, for example, hidden developments can help companies, as well as researchers, to make value creation models more resilient in an uncertain future.

Value Creation Thanks to New Materials

Within the framework of “Wertschöpfungsradar” project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs (BMTR), methods for data-driven and expert-led forecasting are being developed at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in cooperation with the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). The focus is on the methodological development of an artificial intelligence (AI)-supported forecasting system for identifying value creation-relevant signals.

On Future Day, November 24, 2025, at the Futurium, VDMA members will have the opportunity to delve deeper into new ideas on the topic of “New Materials” and discuss their relevance for mechanical and plant engineering. Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters has been invited to give an overview of new developments.
