Orgatec 2024 - Circular Biomaterials Woven Bark Jacket - Charlett Wenig

Biocircular Design Materials of the Future

Designhaus Darmstadt · Mathildenhöhe

7 February 2026, 12:00–18:00
Hourly lecture and guided tour of the exhibition “From Nature to Nature”

In the transition from a linear to a circular economic logic, it is crucial to keep the raw materials and components used in our products entirely within technical and biological cycles. In recent years, a new generation of biomaterials has emerged that meets high technical standards but can also serve as nutrients for nature at the end of their life cycle.

New Generation of Highly Developed Natural Materials

Whether it’s tree bark for shoes or jackets, algae-based foams for upholstered furniture, or compressed kraft paper for seat shells or electronic components: a new generation of biomaterials is currently poised to enter the market, offering designers across all sectors new opportunities for innovation and unlocking highly interesting circular business models.

As part of the “From Nature to Nature” exhibition, Professor Dr. Sascha Peters will offer hourly presentations and guided tours on February 7th, providing an in-depth look at the diverse innovation potential of the materials and demonstrators on display. One exhibition area focuses on the innovative potential of highly developed mushroom-based materials. Prepare to be amazed!
