In the next few years we will see a change in our product culture towards a circular economy.

Green Deal Materials

At the same time, the pandemic has triggered a surge in digitization, the effects of which will be mixed with the drive for a more sustainable society. With the Green Deal, the European Commission is setting an example and is promoting the desire for a functioning circular economy and for products and processes with reduced CO2 emissions. Because the climate crisis is developing into a threat to our prosperity.

Companies will benefit from the development if they manage to combine the potential of digitization with the need for a sustainable product culture and to place corresponding offers on the market. The change is already disruptive in some areas. This applies above all to production methods in which classic processes are supplemented, combined or replaced by those of additive manufacturing.

We expect the most far-reaching innovations for the biological cycle. In the field of materials, there have been astonishing developments in the use of cellulose in recent years. At SUDT in Singapore, for example, a robot-based manufacturing process was developed with which high-strength architectural structures made of pure cellulose, chitin and fungal growth could be created for bonding. At the Aalto University in Helsinki, a technology was developed with which so-called structural colors can be introduced into wooden surfaces, which give the material a color without the use of pigments.

In the “Green Smart Materials” trend forum, Hon.-Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters and Diana Drewes from the future agency HAUTE INNOVATION in Berlin show some of the latest sustainable material innovations and smart technologies with great potential for the interior and furniture industry in their online channel for INTERZUM @HOME 2021.

Program

4 May 2021
The Green Deal for Interior Design

10:30
“Green Deal Materials”, Hon.-Prof. Dr. Sascha Peters (Haute Innovation –
