The main aim is to develop new circular business models and, at the same time, to significantly reduce the CO<sub>2<\/sub> footprint in production.<\/p>\n<h3>Laboratory-cultivated technical biomaterials<\/h3>\n<p>However, developments currently go much further. Technical biomaterials can replace conventional materials made of polymers or metals in a wide range of industrial products. Cork, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haute-innovation.com\/en\/magazine\/sustainability\/stand-up-paddleboard-from-renewable-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">balsa<\/a>, flax and hemp have now found a firm place in innovations for lightweight construction.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.haute-innovation.com\/magazin\/leichtbau\/staerkstes-biomaterial-der-welt-entwickelt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nanocellulose<\/a> cultivated in the laboratory is expected to have enormous potential in this context. Product concepts have been known in the past as biocircular packaging material and in the form of an alternative leather substitute.<\/p>\n<p>The use as fiber reinforcement for plastic-free composites or in the form of high-tech paper for electronic applications in satellites for commercial space travel are the most recent innovations.
