Air-purifying Nano-titanium Dioxide The white Pigment with exceptional Properties

46/2010

Titanium dioxide is known as the white pigment. But reducing it to nanoscale dimensions, you get a surprisingly creative surface, able to purify the air of odours and contaminants. The effect has already been tested in several european cities, where the nanostructured titanium dioxide was added to the porphyry cubes or facade elements. The market already offers various building materials, including asphalt, enriched with nano-titanium dioxide powder, as well as packaging materials for food and skin care products. The research centre at the University of Kassel is developing new blends based on dye molecules, and nanoparticles of titanium dioxide to be "spread" on large urban areas (project "helioclean").
