Luminoso Translucent Wood

33/2010

As a result of experiments conducted in Japan, it was found that by integrating optical fibre glass in the mass of certain non-transparent materials such as stone and, more recently, wood, even these can be traversed by rays of light. luminoso www.luminoso.at is the name of a panel of translucent wood developed in 2009 by an Austrian company, which can be used as an interweaving or projection surface in interior design. To obtain this composite material, whose full potential is yet to be discovered, thin layers of wood are made to adhere to each other with high strength adhesive. optical fibres that carry light are then inserted between the individual layers.
